Talented Toddlers at Nursery

Talented Toddlers at Nursery - enquire now

45 minute music sessions delivered in your nursery

What is talented toddlers?

Talented Toddlers at Nursery is a much loved 45 minute music class for 3-5 year olds. A professional musician and teacher leads the children through musical interpretations of much loved stories, and all children have their own workspace and set of instruments.

They learn to take responsibility for their own things, help to keep things tidy and organised, and, yes, they absolutely love it!

The 3 fundamentals of music are developed over time at this class: Pitch, Rhythm and Pulse, and the development of the whole child: language and literacy; numbers; sequencing; pattern recognition; gross and fine motor skills. Not to mention the social and emotional benefits of a group music setting and the brain development that formal music education brings.

all about Talented Toddlers

backstory

Talented Toddlers began life as a parent and child session in the community, for families looking for a toddler class that was calm, structured, friendly and fun, and brought out the best in their children.

It was so popular, 3 sessions a week ran with waiting lists for them all.

Soon this led to requests from local nurseries to provide something in-house, and we developed the "Talented Toddlers at Nursery" model, where children can fully engage with the class without the input of a parent or carer. Over time we have found our most successful and beneficial version and are delighted to offer this across the country, delivered by incredible musicians and teachers.

people

The staff out delivering Talented Toddlers are all highly qualified individuals who love working with children and are the top of their game as musicians, too.

The children get to witness live singing and playing from these top-level performers in every session, supported by specially orchestrated backing tracks that bring depth to the experience and add joy and hilarity while also honing close listening skills and developing young minds.

Children also learn to take responsibility for their own workspace and equipment, with a set of instruments laid out for every child who attends.

our goal

Rhythm Academy SCIO's whole objective is to advance the arts and education, and that means making it easy to get people involved with these high quality lessons and experiences.

At nursery, that means it has to be easy for the adults looking after them!

We work with nurseries to find a time in the week that is suitable to host the class, and then we take over all booking, charging and waiting list operations, leaving nursery to get on with running nursery. This means you're not the "middle man", and we develop a relationship with the families independently.

We want your nursery to feel as much benefit as the children do for having the class, so we are committed to making it work for you.

Once we have settled a time slot and space, then we can run some taster sessions to let your 3-5's try the class on for size, although you can skip this step if it wouldn't be convenient for nursery.

When you're happy, and the times are all set in stone, we send you posters to display in the nursery and email flyers with direct booking links for parents to sign up.

  That's it!

Nursery can go back to being nursery again.

Just make sure our staff can get access to the nursery at class times and we will do the rest, including parent communications and payment handling.

Please be sure to advertise the provision to prospective families and book your nursery tours for when class is on - it looks and sounds great.

our requirements

suitable space

The working area should be approximately 3.5x4.5m of clear floorspace to allow 10 children and a teacher, plus instruments and soft matting, as the class is mainly carried out on the floor. The matting provides a soft surface to reduce risk of damage to instruments and reduce risk of slipping when working with sensory scarves.

Please note that staff and children will never carry out a class in any environment that poses a risk to their health or safety.

approximately an hour

Class is 45 minutes, staff require 10 minutes set up and 10 minutes load-out after class. If you require staff to go and retrieve children from their normal rooms,  this will add a few minutes to their required access time.

access to the door

Staff will be bringing equipment into nursery with them. This means parking should be nearby, with clear access to the door. Some nurseries do not hand out door codes, and this is fine - just ensure they are granted access in a way that suits you, which ensures enough time for a set-up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at rhythm.academy@outlook.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

No. It doesn't cost nursery anything, but we charge the parents of the children participating.

We are a non-profit charity regulated by OSCR, therefore we charge to cover our costs associated with delivery and any additional funding raised by attendance at our classes is then added to our charity funds to assist in carrying out our charitable objectives.

Most of our nurseries do not charge us room hire, as they understand we are a non-profit, but this might vary depending on the nursery provider.

If you do wish to charge us for the hire of the space, then we will pass this additional cost on to participants so we are able to cover delivery cost and achieve our fundraising goals.

Please let us know if your centre intends on charging for the room and how much at your first enquiry.

We want to make this work for you as much as for us. You tell us what you're happy to start with.

6 weeks to see how it goes? October to Christmas then re-evaluate?

There's absolutely no obligation to "book us in" for the full year, but we would hope that very quickly you'll agree that the class is a great and easy addition to your centre, and you'll want us to do a full academic session and come back after the summer break!

Tell us your preferred class time in the week, and we will organise a morning session. If you have 30 3-5s in that morning, we will run 3 short sessions back to back - 20 minutes each. Staff decides who goes in when, and staff are always more than welcome to come and watch or participate.

Basically, we use well known childrens' storybooks to structure our classes, stopping at various points to engage in a song, action song or instrumental piece of music to highlight a character, an event in the story or a place. We have a full library of over 70 childrens books with associated musical activities and some very well known ones include the Gruffalo, the Very Hungry Caterpillar, the Tiger Who Came to Tea, the Snail and the Whale, Wow Goes the Owl... and so on. There's a lot!

No. Our staff have a high degree of discretion about how they deliver these lessons, and they often compose their own material specific to the children in the class.

The reason we use professional musicians and music teachers to deliver Talented Toddlers is that there's a very specific music education component at work, and it requires a professional level of musicianship and pedagogical understanding to achieve its objectives.

Now, we personally know great musicians who work in nurseries, and they make brilliant delivery partners, but Talented Toddlers classes are specifically to be delivered by music education specialists.

If you want us to help your staff with delivering expressive arts experiences and outcomes, we can arrange that, but they wouldn't be delivering Talented Toddlers.

1. Equipment management

2. Safety and supervision

3. Space

Hope that helps!
